A NOTE FROM FRANCES CAUSEY
We continue to struggle booking our film throughout the American south with both theaters and film festivals there. As an antidote, we want to take our film on a “Southern tour” where we book theaters ourselves and drive attendance. This is time consuming and expensive. Success will pivot off of our ability to get the word out which takes funding that we don’t currently have.
LONG SHADOW supporters, please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to our film with our fiscal sponsor, From The Heart Productions, which will send you a letter confirming your tax-free donation (If you'd like to make a TAX DEDUCTIBLE donation please make your check out to our 510-C3 fiscal sponsor: From the Heart Productions, Inc, with THE LONG SHADOW in the memo line and mail to: From the Heart Productions, Inc.1455 Mandalay Beach Road. Oxnard, CA 93035. )
With your help, we hired the LA-based publicity firm, Big Time PR, for our upcoming NY and LA theatrical runs where they are living up to their name, producing media coverage for us in Print, Radio and TV. We’d like to be able to bring Big Time PR on to help with our southern tour, so please consider donating.
All screenings of our film are special but I must admit returning to my Alma Mater – the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill - for the southern premiere of our theatrical run at the Silver Spot Theater is as sweet as it gets for me. Our film screens on Nov. 12 and Nov. 13 amidst the backdrop of much needed change, not only in Chapel Hill but across the nation.
In August, the confederate monument – "Silent Sam" was toppled from its base on the UNC campus by students and activists who had grown weary of the University's intransigence on taking the statue down. Our film explains, most confederate statues were erected at the turn of the 19th century and in the 1950's and 60's (during heightened civil rights protests) as monuments to white supremacy and to intimidate African-Americans. Just last week, the UNC chancellor also apologized "for the profound injustices of slavery", an acknowledgement that slaves built and maintained the university. Our film's contribution to our understanding and education of the terrible toll of this violent history with white supremacy is best summed up with this quote from Thom Hartmann of The Thom Hartmann Program who said this about our film:
“If you want to know the true hidden history of the evil that slavery cast over America, and how it continues to this day, you must watch this movie.”
—-Thom Hartmann, The Thom Hartmann Program
What a thrill to hear those words from our dear friend and colleague Thom Hartmann who narrated our last film, Heist: Who Stole the American Dream?. Thom absolutely loved THE LONG SHADOW and asked me to appear on his show Oct. 25 to promote our New York theatrical release which runs from Oct. 26- Nov. 1 at Cinema Village in NYC. Stay tuned for where you can watch the interview.
Check our website and our Facebook Events, daily for theaters where you can see THE LONG SHADOW. There is no substitute for seeing our film in theaters! Dates are being added as I write this and our distributor tells us our theatrical run will extend well into January, 2019.
Here are confirmed dates:
Oct. 26 - 30 Oakland, CA, The New Parkway
Oct. 26 - Nov. 1, NYC, Cinema Village
Nov. 23 - 29, Los Angeles, Laemmle Music Hall
Oct. 29 Ft. Collins, CO, Lyric Cinema
Nov. 12 & 13, Chapel Hill, NC, Silver Spot Theater
Nov. 4, St. Louis International Film Festival
I am honored to have been chosen to present at the 2019 TedXTucson conference. My idea is the prevalence of implied racism in our nation. Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.
DVD’s of THE LONG SHADOW are being offered as part of a pledge drive for Pacifica radio stations KPFA in Berkeley and KPFK in Los Angeles. Recently, I was on KPFK’s Rising Up with Sonali which is also simulcast on Free Speech TV. Our film is shattering the sales record of Heist which was one of the best-selling DVD’s ever for Pacifica.
You can now Pre-Order the DVD or digital download of THE LONG SHADOW on our website. We continue to hear from audiences that this is a film that they MUST share with their family and friends.
We are in the final phase of a FIVE-YEAR effort to make and distribute this film. Honestly, as completely independent filmmakers, we are running a bit on fumes at this point but we will continue to fight for equality and justice for the African-American community. We will not stop until we get our film in front of as many people as possible. We so appreciate your support!
As always, thank you for your love and support. It literally means the world to us.
If you have thoughts, comments, or feelings to express please add a review. Help us reach a goal of 25 reviews by rating us on IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes.
Your support means the world to us!
With your continued support we can take this important film to the world.

We made The Long Shadow for white people to discuss openly centuries of white imposed anti-black racism on the African American community.
